.:Painting:.

Here is the start of my over painting of my cousin Grace. It still needs some more shadows and lines but here is the rough idea.

.:The Final:.

I think that I'd like to do something with landscapes. I thought about doing different sunsets or maybe layering them into a collage, but I want to mainly deal with fields or open landscapes.

.:Surrealism:.

Artist’s Name _____Man Ray_________________________

Title of Artwork ______Glass Tears____ Date of Work ____1932______

Description: you see a close up of a womans eyes, she has dark eyeliner. It appears she has been crying but instead of tears there are small glass spheres on her face.

Analysis:The Design There's a bit of implied line the way her eyes gaze off. Perhaps some contrast against the shine of the glass tears, her pail skin, and dark eyes.

Interpretation:I dont think there is a deep meaning behind this work but perhaps its trying to find the beauty in crying. Usually when a woman cries her make up runs and she's a mess but in this photo her tears are symbolized by beautiful glass beads.

Judgment: I feel that the photo is really successful. I enjoy how simply surrealistic it is. Just the tears are unrealistic, also the close up creates more drama which is really nice.

Artist’s Name __Josiem____________________________

Title of Artwork ___Walking on Water_ Date of Work _____unknown_______

Description: You see a girl appearing to walk on water at night. You can see a line caused by the light reflecting on the water. The black and White create a very high contrast.

Analysis:The Design There is definitely some asymmetrical balance but I think that really adds to the photo.

Interpretation: I dont think there is really any hidden meaning behind this photo. It is just a really clever and beautiful piece of art.

Judgment: I feel this photo is very successful. It isn't as cluttered as some surrealistic pieces can be. It simple nature, high contrast, and whimsical theme are a hit for me.

Man Ray

Man Ray was born August 27 1890 in Philadelphia PA. His parents were poor jewish immigrants. He received scholarships for architecture but decided to take up the arts instead. He was first most a painter but was later known for his fashion photographs. He was also a leader in the Dada and Surrealism movements. He lived in Paris where he produced a few short films until he was uprooted by the second world war and moved to California. It was here that he met his second wife Juliet Browner who became a model in much of his art. He returned to Paris where he died November 1976.

Josiem
Josiem is a very current Surrealist Photographer I found on RedBubble.com. She is 18 years old and lives in the Bellingen Australia. She has future plans of getting a bachelors of photography from UNI. I'm afraid I don't know much more than that but for 18 she has a lot of great pieces.

Compare and Contrast

I feel like these photos have a lot in common. They are both in black and white, involve high contrast and female figure. They both have a very feminine and Emotional touch. I feel like Josiem is almost a more technological advanced copy with these photos. Man Ray is not photo manipulated but the subject was altered before the photo to create surrealism while Josiem's was altered after the photo was taken.
